How it works
On first launch Inviso reads your Screenshots album. Nothing is copied, moved or modified — it only opens each image to look at it.
Google ML Kit's text recognition runs directly on your phone's processor. The recognition model ships inside the app, so there is nothing to download and no server in the loop.
The extracted text goes into a private index on your device. Type a word and the matching screenshots appear. After the first pass, only new screenshots are read.

Results are paginated and images load on demand, so scrolling stays smooth whether you have two hundred screenshots or two hundred thousand.
A Storage screen shows how many screenshots are indexed, how much text was extracted, the database size and your tags. Clear the index or re-index everything whenever you like.

In practice
These are the things people open Inviso for. Every one of them is a word you remember attached to an image you don't.
Privacy
This is the part that matters, so here it is precisely. Text recognition runs on your device using a model bundled inside the app. The extracted text is written to a database in Inviso's own private storage, where no other app can read it. There is no Inviso account, no Inviso server, and no analytics in this app.
Inviso never uploads, copies, moves or deletes your screenshots. It opens them to read them, and that is all.

Media access is the only permission Inviso itself requests. The bundled Google ML Kit library adds a network permission of its own for library diagnostics — your screenshots and their text are not part of that. The full detail is in the policy.

No. Text recognition happens on your device, and the resulting index is stored in Inviso's private app storage. Your images and their text are never sent anywhere.
Yes, completely. The text recognition model is bundled inside the app rather than downloaded on demand, so indexing and searching both work in airplane mode.
To read the screenshots you want to search. There is no way to extract text from an image the app cannot open. It is the only permission Inviso asks you to grant.
Never. Inviso opens your screenshots read-only. It does not edit, rename, move, compress or delete anything in your gallery.
Open Settings → Storage and tap Clear index. That removes the extracted text, the index and your tags. Uninstalling the app removes everything as well. Your actual screenshots are untouched either way.
It depends on how many screenshots you have and how fast your phone is — a few seconds for a couple of hundred, longer for a large backlog. Progress is shown while it runs, and it only ever happens once. New screenshots are picked up individually after that.
This release recognises Latin-script text, which covers English and most European languages, along with the digits and symbols in receipts, codes and references.
